The Last Time
We Bid You Goodnight
Even when we were stuck in traffic I had this feeling inside - I
love being part of this subculture. I love "strangers stopping
strangers", I love the happy good vibes I get from this crowd, I
love the smiles that came to me from every direction I looked in.
There definately were some negatives but overall it's a real positive
force and I'm so happy to be a part of it! By the end of the show
I had such an incredible feeling of power because of being part of
this huge group of people dancing and singing and clapping...
We left NH at noon and didn't get to our seats until almost 5 I'd
say. Traffic was at a standstill for miles around and we tried
several different approaches to the stadium. At 3:37 we decided to
just park wherever we were and start walking. There was no big
crowds at the entrance so we kindof walked right in - they confiscated
my (empty ;-) ) wine flask at the door, but while they were searching
thru the backpack Guntis was carrying, I just grabbed the wine flask
and ran inside...
We missed most of the New Bohemians because we were late and then because
we were hugging and greeting our friends.
Musical highlights for me: Candyman!!! Just excellent. Slow and
raunchy. Wonderful! [small editorial comment - big cheer for 'if I
had a shotgun...' still wonder why]
I just knew they would play 'Saturday Night' but NEVER thought it wouldn't
be the encore! I thought it was a great surprise to hear it in the first
set (and a relief that it wouldn't be the encore).
Eyes was a highlight because it is always a highlight for me! It was
a perfect tempo (for me - I don't like fast or disco Eyes) - and the
jamming was SPECTACULAR!
Crazy Fingers was beautiful.
Drums/space was kindof "rainforesty" - it had a jungle kind of beat
and it was just what I was hoping for. Then as it started getting spacey, I
had a hard time figuring out what was making the sound. Was it Mickey?
It didn't sound like percussion but I couldn't see who was on stage.
We were so far back that even with binoculars I had a hard time
focusing on the band (was it really the distance or what? ;-) )
Going Down the Road Feeling Bad - I took it as a message from the band
"ain't gonna be treated this'a way" and it was powerful to hear
60,000 people screaming THAT out!
The encore was just excellent. I was so absolutely satisfied and
absolutely high from the show that I really couldn't think or care
what they would do. I was pleasantly surprised to hear them do
'The Last Time'. It was sweet. I thought to myself as I danced myself
further into oblivion - what a sweet way to end the night. Still rockin'
Still encouraging audience participation. We went wild in our applause.
But wait! There's still more! I could NOT believe it! It was CLEAR
that they sang the heartfelt 'We Bid You Goodnight' because they
thought as much of the evening as we did! We could see on the
diamondvision screen that their smiles were almost falling off
their faces too! Phil joined in on the clapping that the audience
was answering with. Jerry was clearly chuckling as he puffed on
a cigarette between the lines. It was a FINE ending to a fine night...
"and we bid you goodnight" clap clap "goodnight" clap clap "goodnight"

Ramble on Rose
One More Saturday Night
I enjoyed the show quite alot. I don't know if I'm getting used to
these big stadium shows, or if the weather was better than usual or
what, but for the first time I came away from Foxboro and can really
say I enjoyed the music there as much as the deadhead scene...
